The Parks and Recreation Department annually host a summer concert series in Rockwell Park. The nine week series is free and runs from June through August on Tuesday nights.
The 2015 series saw an impressive slate of local bands including Acoustic Ice Cream, The Buttercups, The Wyatt Earp Society, Fisted Five, Rasputin and Bloody Gums.
Unfortunately Rockwell Park missed out on U2, The Who, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, One Direction, KISS and dozens of other acts that toured in the summer of 2015. They are hoping 2016 will be different.
Legendary hard rockers Guns N’ Roses with founding members Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan, are reuniting and touring this summer. Rockwell Park concert organizers want to land the Hall of Fame band for the 2016 summer series.
However, one of the sticking points could the PA system, “According to their rider they use a 120,000 watts of power with a digital mixing board, multiple guitar racks, wireless microphones, sound isolating earphones and walls of Marshall Amplifiers. And get this a separate sound system just for the vocals. What a bunch of show offs. Our 500 watt mixer, powered speakers and monitors, can handle Guns and Roses. They handled Bloody Gums for Pete Sakes,” said Smitty, the Rockwell Park sound guy.
No word from the GNR camp if the PA is a deal breaker.
